On a cold Saturday morning in January, Radhika and I braved the long lines to get to Fort Baker before sunrise.  The extraordinary sight of pre-dawn Golden Gate Bridge was well worth it.  We then drove across to Battery Spencer for a couple more shots of post-sunrise through the ever present clouds in San Francisco.

At high tide, Bar Island is in fact an island.  At low tide, however, it is connected to Mount Desert Island by a narrow strip of land made up of sand and gravel.  At this picturesque sand-bar in Acadia National Park, Maine, we witnessed an unusual sight.  A run-of-the-mill seagull was smart enough to hunt for starfish that were stranded on the gravel between the islands at low tide.  “Don’t play with your food”, I thought.
